Women and Water

Two workshops for women activities in Kurunegala in the North Western Province on 24th September 2004 and the other on 20th November in Beliatta in Southern Sri Lanka was held during 2004. These workshops were to support Gender and Water sensitization with a view to promoting entry of women to decision making at grass root level.

Tool Box –IWRM Plans

a) The Tool Box case study on the MASL was finalized and report of progress will be made at SAWAF III to be held in Dhaka in July.

b) IWRM plans of GOSL are being reviewed in the context of changes of Government in April. New water policy is being drafted, as policy development to date was not favored by this Government. Once the policy issues are clear, progress on the development of IWRM plans would be facilitated. Meanwhile, the linking of IWRM plans and MDGs with respect to water issues are being persued with the Government and UNDP office. A report prepared by UNDP office in June 2004 reviewed at a workshop held in July. The report of the IWRM/ Water Policy Consultation held in November 2003 was finalized for distribution in July 2004.

SAWAF III

12 delegates (including 4 RWP members, 5 paper presenters and other delegates) participated in SAWAF III held during 12-15th July 2004 at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargoan in Dhaka Bangladesh. The following papers were presented at the Forum. The following papers were presented by Sri Lanka.
